Joe and Ryan of UpTop Films are brilliant at what they do!
Yesterday they shot some more footage for the upcoming documentary about life here at The Big Green House. They had many more questions they wanted me to answer. One of these that Joe kept returning to was,” When you see people’s lives being transformed, how does it make you feel?”
I must admit that is something we’ve never dwelt on, but his persistence drew from me an answer something like this,
“It makes me feel deeply fulfilled because as sons of our Creator Father who is love, it is when we are flowing in creative love, like the one in whose image we are made, that we find the greatest pleasure, for then we are doing what we have been created to do. For us this has involved caring for the ones he has brought to us here at the house, for you it involves making this movie about it!”
We are told in Revelation 4:11 that the reason God created us was for His pleasure! It follows then that he would want us to experience pleasure….as the Presbyterian Catechism I learned as a child stated,
Question: What is man’s chief end?
Answer: Man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy him for ever.
Pleasure is OK!……………… In fact that is what we were created for!
To some God is a Puzzle. To others he is a Pressure. His desire is that we know him as a Pleasure.
You might remember we were lead in Ireland to participate in three marathons as part of, “Running with the Father’s Heart. 32 marathons in 32 counties because every county counts.”
In the County Kildare marathon I ran my leg alongside an old deserted but picturesque canal. As I was running I was reminded of the Olympian, Eric Liddell’s words, immortalized in the film, “Chariots of Fire” as his sister Jenny tried to persuade him to leave his foolish running behind and do something “more serious” for God.
“…….but when I run, I feel His pleasure.”
It was tough going and I didn’t know if I could make it to the end, for I haven’t done much distance running lately, so I found myself returning my Father’s smile and chanting while panting, “Thank you Abba. Thank you Abba. Thank you Abba. Thank you Abba”
Then out of nowhere appeared a man and his dog. As they walked by me he shouted out to the beautiful Collie, “Come on Abi-gail! Come on Abi-gail!”
My smile broadened for I knew the meaning of that name……for this was the name we had given one of our daughters…..FATHER’S JOY!
……..I knew the man and his dog had been sent, with a message of encouragement from my Abba for me : – )
The photo above is of our Abby, now experiencing……..the pleasure of her son!
You’re Abba……… is very fond of you too : – )
